Team from Florida Heading to Work with Projeto Vida

Bobby, Charlene, Jessie, and Brennen Wacaser have served the Lord as church planters in Curitiba, Parana, Brazil, since 1985.
March 4, 2017
Dear Friends,
Charlene and Jessie are super excited! They will be leaving in just a few minutes to spend a couple of weeks in Curitiba, Brazil. During the first week, they will be catching up with friends and taking care of some business details. I will be joining them after that to begin a week of evangelism in public schools and parks together with Projeto Vida and the youth team from Bell Shoals Baptist Church from Brandon, Florida. We are expecting to have the opportunity to share the gospel to over 3000 youth and teachers during the time we will be there.
This will be the first full year that they will be using the newly purchased travel van that replaced one of our old buses. We are grateful that this mode of transportation will make Projeto Vida’s mission trips more efficient, quicker and will allow them to get to more secluded areas. We are thankful to all who contributed to make the purchase of this van possible. We want to continue trying to obtain other vans to replace the old hard to maintain buses, but we’ll keep these old buses rolling as long as we can because we still get the gospel to tens of thousands of lost folks yearly.
We are so thrilled to see how the Lord has used this ministry to transform people’s lives. Every week we see many making a public profession of Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. We know that God is pleased with this because it is what Christ commanded His disciples to do. We also know that there is rejoicing in heaven when one sinner repents and comes to Christ. We are also thrilled to know that there are literally hundreds of young men and women scattered across the globe sharing Christ as a direct result of how the Lord used them and blessed them when they participated with Projeto Vida as a short-term missionary or volunteer. God has greatly used and blessed this ministry and we expect even greater usefulness in the future. Thank you for your prayers and support.
In Christ’s love,
Bobby and Charlene Wacaser

Specific Prayer Requests, Preparing to Return to Kenya

Nathan and Carrie Radford serve the Lord in Kitale, Kenya. Their main ministries include indigenous church planting, a prison ministry, and a hospital ministry for mothers with premature babies.
March 2, 2017
Dear praying friends,
Another month has come and gone, and it is hard to believe we are already into the month of March. The time passes so quickly and may we use our time wisely for His kingdom. This update will share current updates as well as prayer requests.
Our daughters are doing very well at Calvary Baptist Academy in West Virginia. They are getting much needed socialization with other children. This has been very good for them, and we are grateful they have had this experience. They are learning time management, how to relate with other kids their age, etc. Please continue to pray with us that God will provide families in Kitale with children their age, as this is so important.
Another prayer request is for my wife’s permit to continue along with the hospital ministry. She needs a permit through the government to continue with this ministry to the babies and mothers, and my understanding is that it will be up for renewal next month. Please pray with us that the permit would be renewed without any problem. We trust the Lord for this as well. We are asking the Lord by faith to keep the door open in this ministry. I take comfort in a verse such as Luke 11:9, which says “And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.”
Yet another big prayer request is for the country of Kenya, as there is a scheduled election around the month of August later this year. We thank the Lord that things passed peacefully in the last election, and we are praying that this election will pass also without any problems. This will be a couple of months after we return to Kenya, Lord willing, so please pray not only for us, but all those working and serving in the country. John 14:1 says “Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.” What a comfort to know that God is in control of all things.
The time has passed so quickly on this furlough, and we are looking to return to Kenya in a few months. There is always a lot to do when transitioning, so please pray for me (Nathan) that I would get everything done that needs to be done. I will keep you updated and we thank each of you for your prayers, interest in missions, and sacrificial giving. You are each such a blessing and we thank God for you.
Blessings,
Nathan and Carrie Radford

Visits with Family; Recalling Bro. Overbey’s Impact

Missionaries John Mark and Judy Hatcher have been serving the Lord in Tournefeuille, France since 1999. They define their ministry as “disciple-making.”
March 1, 2017
Dear Brothers and Sisters,
Hope this finds you enjoying the Lord. What a blessing to be united with Christ for eternity. In the last couple of days we have been touched by the deaths of several friends. We sorrow, but not as those who have no hope.
Just this morning I received news that Edward Overbey is now at rest in the presence of Christ. He was my pastor for most of the years that I was in College. He had a very positive impact on my life in a number of ways. Among other things, he helped me have a more accurate exegesis. His gentle spirit was always a great encouragement to me. I also had the opportunity to serve with him as a director for Baptist Faith Missions and know personally his and Jackie’s passion for helping missionaries. Jackie, Martha, Grace and David, our hearts are with you and we ask God to comfort you.
At the beginning of February, Judy and I were with my parents for a couple of weeks. We thank God for the parents that He gave to both of us and we were very happy to be able to spend this time with them. During a few days of that time we also got to be with my sister Kathy who came to see our parents as well. We had a great visit. The Lord worked it out for us to tack on at a very low price a stop in Chicago on the way home. We had a wonderful though brief visit with our children, grandchildren and Peggy, Judy’s sister.
I was very blessed by the service at our church here in Tournefeuille this last Sunday. It is good to see God at work in the lives of His children. Contrary to what we had planned, Judy did not return with me to France. Just hours before leaving we received the news that Peggy has a serious health situation so Judy rented a car and drove to Evansville to be with her sister. Please, pray for Peggy and Judy during this difficult time.
Thank you for your faithful support. May God bless you and meet your needs.
In Christ in France,
John

Stymied Approaches to Ministry

The Tate Family has served the Lord in Kitale, Kenya since January 2008. Their main ministry is indigenous church planting.
February 28, 2017
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
I guess it’s time for me to step back again and reevaluate what we’ve been doing in this ministry…and where the ministry is going.
We want to see people who don’t know Jesus being saved. We also want to see New Testament churches of the Lord Jesus Christ being established and growing. I feel that in these endeavors I have been stymied and blockaded by insurmountable challenges.
The first three years in Kenya: During these three years, we took a “traditional” approach. A quick summary of the traditional approach includes paying pastors a salary, funding all ministries, building new church buildings, etc. It basically means that the missionary is paying for, and funding everything the church/ministry is doing. What stymied us in this approach? In a word, DEPENDENCY. You’ve heard me talk about it a hundred times. It builds dependency into the churches and this dependency paralyzes the churches from doing the work of the ministry themselves. It kills the growth and reproduction of the church from the very beginning. “Dependency” has almost become a curse word to me.
The next three years in Kenya: During these three years, I reacted to the problem of dependency and tried to change accordingly. To accomplish this, we really changed our approach to ministry dramatically. I decided to model for the Kenyan Christians only what they could reproduce on their own. We started groups and churches that met in people’s homes. We worked with “lay” pastors that ministered without pay. We worshiped without instruments. In short, I only did what the Kenyan Christians could do without western support and money. What stymied us in this approach? Something similar to dependency, but slightly different. I would summarize it in one word: EXPECTATIONS. Yes, it seems expectations would kill the groups and churches every time. Each time we would start a group we would have many people coming initially. They said they loved the simple and pure Bible teaching and they were learning a lot. They said they loved the simplicity of the worship and meetings as opposed to the “machine” of the local churches. But they always came with expectations. Expectations that we would give them money, gifts, food, school fees, business start-up money, etc. As soon as they realized these expectations would not be met, they were gone. “Expectations” is the next ministry curse word to me.
The last three years: During these years, I changed my approach once again. I wanted to avoid the dependency and expectations. I decided to teach and disciple men to go out into the villages and start the churches on their own. In this way, my presence would not adversely affect the new church start-ups. What stymied us in this approach? I can’t summarize it in one word but in effect I could not find men interested enough in starting churches from scratch in people’s homes. It was not lucrative enough for them. Church work and ministry here is a business and if the business isn’t providing enough profit then it should be scrapped. I guess I could say in two words that my approach was BAD BUSINESS.
My parents are arriving in Kenya in two weeks. I think their arrival in the country is timely. I am looking forward to sitting down with them and with my wife and getting their input and wisdom. My wife and my mother and father are godly and wise people whose input and help I desire and want. I am hoping that the discussions I might have with them over the next month will be used by God to help direct our future ministry here in Kenya.
Until next month, beloved.
May God’s peace and joy be with you.
For the glory of God in East Africa,
Roger & Julie Tate (and Amy, Josiah & Chloe)

Different Avenues for Outreach: Rehabs, Beaches, and Daycares

Bobby, Charlene, Jessie, and Brennen Wacaser have served the Lord as church planters in Curitiba, Parana, Brazil, since 1985.
February 8, 2017
Dear Friends,
Since December, January and February are the summer months in Brazil, the public schools are closed most of that time. The main avenue that Projeto Vida has of taking the gospel to the unreached population in the country is in the public schools, so during these months, our teams try to come up with other creative ways to share the gospel with lost folks. Our Missions Training Center did that this summer by taking the 2 teams of volunteers to some physical rehabilitation centers, daycare centers and recreational events on the beaches. They were a huge blessing to several rehab centers and were able to bring both immediate and eternal hope to many of the patients. During the 3 month period, there were over 1500 individuals who heard the Gospel presented through testimonies, skits, preaching and one-on-one evangelism. Of these 1500, there were 73 adults and 115 youth who accepted Christ as their Lord and Savior!
The evangelistic outreach on the beaches was especially challenging, yet at the same time, fruitful. While many of the patrons of the beachside bars and dance clubs ridiculed the young evangelists, there were also a good number of them who God touched through the testimonies and conversations of the bold witnesses of Christ. Several of our workers are former drug and alcohol abusers and God used them to make a connection that opened hearts to hear the Word. One young lady was at the beach on vacation, but upon seeing the open-air skits portraying the gospel, she was deeply touched by the message that Christ loves her. She had been exposed to the gospel as a child, but had not embraced it. Now, as an adult, she recognized her need for a Savior and surrendered her life to Jesus.
This is the first of 4 Missions Seminars that Projeto Vida will host this year, the Lord willing. There were 13 volunteer participants from other states participating and we hope that they will either return as long-term participants or stay connected as supportive prayer partners. We know they will be changed by their time as volunteers for the good of Christ’s kingdom.
Thank you for your faithful prayers and support.

New Space Already Being Filled; A Ton of Work Ahead

Mike and Beverly Creiglow have served the Lord in Cruzeiro do Sul, Acre, Brazil together since 1971. In addition to pastoring First Baptist of Cruzeiro do Sul, Mike builds his own boats and frequently travels up and down rivers to share the Gospel with those who have never heard.
February 6, 2017
Dear Brethren,
It has been a long time, but I am back. Way too much work and far too little internet. We have been without internet service for a couple of weeks. Before that it has been off and on. Mostly off! For the past 3 months I have been working probably more than I should on construction projects and other church programs. Most days end up being 12 to 14 hours. Just last Saturday was only 10 hours but without a break even for lunch. Beverly is not happy with me. Hopefully I will be able to slow down a little.
The church has been on my case for a long time to break out walls to 6 rooms in our main building to make room for bigger crowds at regular services. What they did not understand is that to do that would be easy, but the hard part would be finding space for those classes to meet. I bit the bullet and jumped into our first major remodel since 2008. We now have added 24 more pews and 80 chairs on the sides. We are pretty much already filling the new space. We still have a small margin for growth for a few months. In the meantime I had to finish out the annex to make room for the 6 class rooms that were bumped out of the main building. It is turning out really nice, but it is a ton of work. This is the part that the church doesn’t really feel.

A new steel structure is going up over the old building at First Baptist of Cruzeiro do Sul, Acre, Brazil.
While all of this has been going on we are also putting up a new steel structure over the whole of the old main building. The frame is up and waiting for the roofing. This means that later this year I will be taking out ceilings, roof, sound system, lighting and AC to make way for a whole new balcony arrangement. This will allow us to double our seating capacity. Lots of work and many challenges just ahead. Pray that God will grant me wisdom, protection and stamina.
Now about the actual, real work. Our Christmas program was 8 nights this time. We had the building packed and overflowing every night even with the extra 200+ seats we added. Think about this blessing: 8 nights without rain in Cruzeiro do Sul in the middle of the rainy season. That just doesn’t happen, but did. We had 24 people saved and several requests for baptism and church letters.
Even with the flurry of activity I have managed to squeeze in visits to Cruzeirão, Cruzeirinho, Miritizal and Rodrigues Alves. There were a few professions of faith at these congregations.
January is usually a little lighter at First Baptist. Last year we only had Sunday night services before going back to the full schedule in February. This year we only cancelled the Friday night service. The Kid’s clubs, Teens ministry and training programs are all off for December and January. Three of our 5 pastors were on vacation for all of January. That meant that besides all the construction work I was taking care of almost all preaching and teaching for the month. Pastor Benjamim was able to help with Sunday school and Wednesday services a couple of times.
Even so we had a good month of January. We had over 10 people saved and more than that making other decisions. The crowds were really good although we had lots of rain. More about the rain later. Our offerings were up more than R$10.000,00 (about US$3,500.00) over January 2016.
Thanks for all of your prayers, support and patience. God bless you as much as He has us.
In Christ,
Mike Creiglow
