Odali and Kathy Barros served the Lord in Sao Paulo, Brazil together from 1987-2013. In late 2013, they transitioned to Manaus in Northern Brazil to start sharing the Gospel and planting churches in villages along the river.

April 21, 2022

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Pray and hope that all are doing well. We are doing great. This year has been unusually rainy. The virus problem has stopped, and we have been able to reach out to more communities. The work in the village of Ubim is growing more and more. I still have the work with the children during the afternoon and then at night, Odali is doing a service for adults. This has really been a blessing.

We are working more and more with the church members to get involved in the different ministries. I try more and more to involve the ladies in different ministries and try to help them find the area they can help in. More and more are starting to get involved.

Our plan is that as more members get involved, we can go to more places to have services in the villages. Thank God, more ladies in the church are getting involved. The greatest difficulty here is that most of the women do not drive and lots of the families do not have cars. So, this makes it harder for some. We want to make teams that can work together. Since I work with kids and teens, from time to time, I take some of the ladies and girls of the church to help me.

My request for prayer is that God open the eyes and hearts of the members of the church to see the need to take the gospel to these villages. Pray that the women see the need to get more involved and minister to the kids and young people. Most of them have never done things like this. Thank you for your love, prayers, and support!

God bless each of you ladies and your families.

Love in our Savior,
Kathy Barros

Going Back in Time

Mike and Beverly Creiglow have served the Lord in Cruzeiro do Sul, Acre, Brazil together since 1971. In addition to pastoring First Baptist of Cruzeiro do Sul, Mike builds his own boats and frequently travels up and down rivers to share the Gospel with those who have never heard.

I really didn’t know what I was getting into when I came to Brazil in June of 1971. I tell everyone that I went back 50 years in time when I arrived in Cruzeiro do Sul, Acre. I grew up with running water, indoor bathroom, hot water from the faucet, buying almost anything needed, electricity 24 hours, etc. I came to a town with no running water, no hot water, and electricity only in the middle of town at night for a few hours. To buy most anything, it was a hassle, especially meat.

The first few years were pretty difficult, Mike traveled a lot. I knew very little Portuguese. We walked in a lot of mud those first several years! God knew I would need my first born, Adam, to occupy my time. Today much has changed. We have very nice supermarkets, 24-hour electricity (most of the time), and paved roads, even though they are full of holes! We have internet and cell phones.

When it came time for my kids to go to public school, for a while it was fine. After they started insisting that the students bring items for the saint’s holiday, that began our search for a way to home school them. Thankfully a church in Missouri bought the books for this to happen. All of my children homeschooled then went on to get their GED or equivalent and further education. Their social life was at church. Most of their friends were from church. That’s a very important detail.

Adam is an IT manager in the California court system. He has two grown daughters. Monica is manager of a law firm in Lexington and has a young daughter. Andrew started and owns a boat factory, but because of the poor economy, he is also a shop manager of a regional airline. He has two daughters and two sons. Crissy has her own English school and is married to one of our pastors. She has three sons and one daughter. Andrew and Crissy live across the street from us and I usually get visits from my grandkids once a day!

I wasn’t able to go with Mike on his river trips while our children were at home and at school. Now that they are out and on their own, I am able to go with Mike on a few trips. My arthritis limits my activities. Now on most of his longer river trips men go with him. My most important job now is supporting him and caring for his needs.

I cannot see Mike retiring. He doesn’t know how to stop! If he doesn’t retire, I guess neither do I.

Keep us in your prayers,

Mike and Beverly Creiglow

Missionary Update: John & Alta Hatcher [May 2013]

It was a joy to see each of you that were present at the Spring Missionary Conference at Thompson Road Baptist Church. We enjoyed the preaching and also enjoyed the wonderful meals the dear women prepared. Thank you Bro. Dave Parks and your church.

Since we were only going to be in the States a week we informed our eleven grandchildren who live in the States and other close friends and relatives to meet us at the conference or in Alexandria, Ky., where John’s invalid brother lives, or in Florida where John’s sister lives. All but two were able to be at one of the locations. What a joy to see them!

John had his 88th birthday April 30th while we were at the conference. Also I enjoyed the special hour I had speaking to the women who were present at the conference. (You can read a recap of her session here.)

Missionaries John and Alta Hatcher have served the Lord in Brazil since 1955, planting over 70 churches that are still in existence.

We rejoice that God has given us 58 wonderful years as missionaries with BFM in many places in Brazil. We are in Brazil because you have supported us and our three children, Paul and Wanda, John Mark and Judy and Odali and Kathy, also our grandson Judson and Raquel. Thank you.

Pray God will give us health and spiritual guidance to serve Him until we go to be with Him in Heaven or He comes for all of us who have trusted Jesus as our Savior.

Thanks again for your support and prayers. May God bless each of you.

Alta Hatcher
