Against All Odds: God’s Work Continues in the Amazon

March 28, 2026
Dear Friends,
I hope this message finds you well. I’m excited to share an update from my recent mission trip into the Amazon forest, which I mentioned in my last report. Having returned just two days ago, I can hardly wait to tell you about the experience and the incredible ways we witnessed God at work.
Before we even set foot in the Amazon, we encountered what I believe were spiritual forces trying to keep us from sharing the gospel. Just one week before our scheduled journey, our host and guide, Brazilian pastor Erasmo, suffered a sudden heart attack—something no one expected as he’s not even 50 years old. The circumstances were unusual: while studying his Bible outdoors, Erasmo heard an odd, muffled squawk from their rooster. Investigating, he found a 12-foot anaconda coiled around the bird. After quickly shooting the snake and dragging it off, Erasmo experienced severe chest pain and nausea. Thankfully, his wife, Maze’, recognized the symptoms and got him to a hospital in time, despite the challenging distance and river crossings. God’s grace was evident—Erasmo recovered enough to host and guide us just days later, leading us through ministry in their villages and along Amazon tributaries.

Another challenge surfaced for our American brothers traveling from Virginia and North Carolina. The night they departed, their family gathered for a farewell meal. Shortly after the men left, the wife of one of the travelers began displaying symptoms similar to a stroke, and her daughter and grandchildren soon felt unwell too. All were rushed to the hospital for treatment and observation; the cause was unclear at first, prompting communication with the men already en route to Brazil. Hearing what had happened, one husband immediately returned home from Brazil to be with his wife, while the other three joined me for a week of ministry. Despite these disruptions, we saw twelve people come to faith in Christ along the riverbanks. It felt like yet another attempt by the enemy to hinder the gospel, but God’s power prevailed. The family has since fully recovered, and the mission went forward as God intended.
Thank you for your devoted prayers and unwavering support—they truly make a difference. It’s a joy to see God’s faithfulness at work and to be reminded that we are on the winning side with Jesus.
With sincere gratitude and love in Christ,
Bobby and Charlene Wacaser
