Teaching in New Area (Taito) & Annex Prison

Nathan and Carrie Radford serve the Lord in Kitale, Kenya. Their main ministries include indigenous church planting, a prison ministry, and a hospital ministry for mothers with premature babies.

February 5, 2020

Dear praying friends,

Another month has come and gone and we are now into the second month of 2020. A new decade will bring many opportunities and challenges, and how we need to trust God at all times, good or bad. Proverbs 16:3 says “Commit thy works unto the LORD, and thy thoughts shall be established.” May we commit all things to Him, and trust Him for the results.

I (Nathan) am continuing along in the discipleship course here in Kitale. The primary man that I work with moved a couple of weeks ago, to a new area called Taito. He has been gracious enough to allow me to meet with him and other students in his new home. Taito is not far from Wiyeta, his previous village, but is now closer to town. I am excited about the training prospects in Taito, as it is a big area with many youths nearby. My goal is to disciple mainly youths, so I am excited to be teaching in this new village. We had a good start in Taito this past week and I am excited to see what God has in the future for this area. I am reminded of Jeremiah 29:11 which says “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.” We looked at the topic of sin last week and it had a good response. One of the students told me this is the first time he has received in depth teaching on the topic of sin, and seems excited to go and teach others. Please pray for each of the students and their continued spiritual growth.

I (Nathan) am also continuing to teach at the Annex prison. Recently we looked at the life of Joshua and Caleb, and their trust in God, despite the lack of faith in the other spies. 12 spies were sent to spy out the promised land before entering it. 10 of the spies did not trust God, yet Joshua and Caleb believed God, regardless of the challenges. They knew the obstacles and the size of the people – yet they remembered the miracles that God had done for them and trusted Him to be with them and deliver them. They trusted Him to drive out the Canaanites and give the land to Israelites. As always, God honored their faith. What a lesson for us today. Do we have the faith that we need? Do we see the obstacles or the great God that will deliver us? 2 Corinthians 5:7 says “For we walk by faith, not by sight.” How we need to trust God each day for everything. Please pray for this ministry and the inmates that attend the teachings.

Our daughters have started a new term at the school here in Kitale. Please pray for them and their studies, and also for their much-needed socialization with other children their age. My wife continues to volunteer daily and teach 5th grade grammar, writing and reading, sacrificing much of her time to invest in the students there. What a blessing she is to many here. Please pray for the continued health of the students, as our daughter McKenna seems to get sick often and has many colds, etc.

In closing, there have been some insecurities in different areas of Kitale the past few weeks. There have been various robberies both in and outside of town, so please pray for the residents, as well as the police as they seek to catch those responsible. We feel very safe where we live now and if you will remember, this is one of the main reasons we moved from our previous house. We trust God to watch over and protect us each day, as you all do as well in the States. We will keep you updated. We appreciate each of you so much.
