Delighting in God’s Work Through Bible Studies Across France

Missionaries John and Judy Hatcher have been serving the Lord in France since 1999. They define their ministry as “disciple-making.”

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Greetings in the name of our Lord and Savior. We are getting along fine and hope you are as well. We are excited to see God at work and to have you as fellow servants and supporters.

Judy and I just returned from a visit with Patricia in her home. You may remember our request for your intercession on her behalf in our last letter. Frankly, I did not think she would be able to return to her apartment. I was wrong. She is receiving nutrition through a stomach tube as she is not able to swallow. A medical worker comes to her place each evening to load and activate the feeding mechanism. Barbara, one of the ladies from our church, has spent numerous hours visiting Patricia and seeking to help in the administrative aspects of her care. Please continue to pray for this needy lady that she might clearly understand and trust Christ as her Savior.

In the Fall of 2022, we began a new Bible study in the city of L’Union. The hostess was the only person besides us who was a believer. She wanted her friends to come to Christ. There are now usually 9 people at this Bible study. As perceived in their conversation, understanding of the Bible and regular worship service involvement, two seemed to have trusted Christ, though they have not yet made a public profession. The hostess followed Christ in baptism this past summer and we now have another believer from our church participating. God is at work and we are delighted. Please continue to pray for this Bible study.

Our Bible study in Mazeres is growing and last month a young army officer who attends professed his faith in Christ.

We have started a new Bible study in the City of Auterive and there are 10 people participating. These are believers or individuals who are very interested in studying the Bible.

This week, a lady with whom Judy and I have been meeting for about a year and a half trusted Christ as Savior. The history of her life is a wreck. However, in retrospect it is obvious that God has been intervening for years in her life to draw her to Himself. Our first contact with her was three years ago through her chiropractor who is a member of the church that meets in our home. This new believer has a son in first grade and a husband who both need Christ. Please pray for her.

Our Father is at work in many other ways around us and we are very encouraged. Let us all express our thanks to our Lord and continue to intercede for those who need a Savior and for believers in their spiritual growth.

We are delighted to have you ministering with us.

In Christ,
Judy and John

A New Believer in Mazere

Missionaries John and Judy Hatcher have been serving the Lord in France since 1999. They define their ministry as “disciple-making.”

November 12, 2024

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

It’s Thanksgiving month and we have much for which to be thankful. You are on our Thanksgiving list.

Last week at our Bible Study in Mazere, a young man testified that He had put his faith in Christ the previous weekend. I mentioned this career soldier in army special forces in my last letter. He just recently started coming to the Bible study. It is great to see his interest and commitment to the Lord.

Once a month, we have a men’s prayer breakfast. This past Saturday there was a range of men from twenty years old to seventy-one years old present. It is very encouraging to see the interest that these men have in helping each other through fellowship, counsel and prayer. The ladies meet every other week for prayer.

Our Sunday meetings and other Bible studies in six other locations are going well and we are encouraged by what God is doing in the lives of the individuals who participate.

Patricia, a lady who lived not far from us when we met her in our former neighborhood, has been in long term hospital care for several weeks. We have witnessed to her as have others from our congregation over the last dozen or so years. Judy has picked her up and brought her to our church meetings. She shows greater interest now and asks for prayer, but has never made a clear commitment of faith in Jesus Christ for salvation. Barbara, one of the ladies from our congregation, has done a lot to help her. Your prayers for Patricia are greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your prayers and support. May God bless you and your ministry.

Your fellow servants,
John and Judy Hatcher

Dear Friends,

It has only been a couple of weeks since my last report, but we are so glad to report that some wonderful things have happened in that short period! I’ll jump straight to the best news of all. Our missionaries in Portugal, Yago and Manoela, were blessed to win their first Portuguese convert to Christ. You may have already read of this on the social media pages of Baptist Faith Missions, but we’re so happy for them and for God’s glory to shine, and we wanted to thank you who have been praying for their success.

They wasted no time after their arrival in Portugal in reaching out to the lost people there. The young man, Emanuel, whom they were privileged to evangelize, considered himself anti-God for much of his life. In fact, you may have watched the movies “God’s Not Dead”, 1 and 2,” that were in theaters a few years back. Emanuel was invited to go see # 2 by a Brazilian Christian friend living in Portugal and he accepted. While watching the movie, he identified himself with the atheist college professor. Similarly, his mother had died very young, and he was angry and confused at how a “good” God would let his mother die and it made it difficult for him to believe God was real. But at the same time, it got him wondering about the existence of God and, when Victoria, the Brazilian Christian friend asked him if he would accompany her to a Bible study, he accepted. Another interesting note is that Yago and Manoela did not know Victoria or she them, but on Baptist Faith Mission’s social media pages she read about their arrival in Portugal and she reached out to them to come help her evangelize her friend through a Bible study. They do not live in the same city, but they were happy to drive to meet them for this purpose. At the very first study, Emanuel, heard the gospel, believed in the Lord Jesus, and surrendered his life to Him for salvation! We are still praising God! Yago and Manoela have agreed to go weekly to meet with Victoria and Emanuel to begin discipleship training. Our continued prayer is that Emanuel will be instrumental in reaching his friends, family, and acquaintances with the gospel as well. It has only been a little over 2 months since this missionary couple arrived in Portugal and to already have a Portuguese adult turn to the Lord is astoundingly great news!

Our church did begin having services in our new location as we planned. What we didn’t plan for was the amazing turn-out in attendance. We had been having a packed house in our former location with an average of 225 in attendance. The very first service in our new location was attended by 309 people. A few of those were some curious neighbors as to what kind of church was moving into their neighborhood, but they were warmly welcomed, and some have decided to keep coming. We still have lot of renovations to do on the building and classrooms, but many of our members are stepping up to the challenge, coming out several times a week to build, paint, clean, and pray for spiritual growth. God is truly blessing our faith, and beyond it. We do at least have room now for continued numerical growth at our new location. May the Lord see fit to fill it quickly.

Thank you so much for your faithful prayers and support. Charlene and I are very grateful.

In Christ’s love,
Bobby and Charlene Wacaser

A Soldier Called Home

Bobby and Charlene Wacaser have served the Lord as church planters in Curitiba, Parana, Brazil, since 1985.

May 28, 2021

Dear Friends,

In a letter I wrote a couple of months ago I told about a dear couple, Emmanuel and Maria, who had retired from their secular jobs to engage in fulltime evangelism. Both, they and their grown children all contracted COVID in March and were treated with medications to recover. All six of them recovered from COVID, but sadly, Emmanuel suffered heart failure due to pre-existing conditions and the Lord saw fit to take him on to heaven. His family and our church family are very sad that he is no longer with us, but we do rejoice that Emmanuel has finished his race and is enjoying the presence of our Savior. Even while he was in the hospital he was a soldier for the Lord. Four people who were either roommates or visitors came to know Christ through his testimony and that of his family as they shared their faith through the gospel.

Nearly a year ago, a teenage girl who attended our services turned to Christ and was baptized. Her parents are divorced and she divides her time, living with both parents for a couple of weeks at a time. Both of her parents have been Spiritists (demon worshippers) all of her life. When she first wanted to be baptized, her father wouldn’t allow it. She respected her father’s will and waited to be baptized until he gave his permission. Her changed behavior after her conversion was so stark that her father was convicted of his own need for forgiveness and just last week we baptized him after his surrender to Christ! It is amazing to see how joyful this man has become. We are now praying for the girl’s mother to come to Christ also.

Charlene and I want to thank you who pray for us faithfully. We see constantly evidence of God’s blessings upon our health and fruit in our ministries and we are grateful to you who pray and give that we may continue serving here in Curitiba, Brazil.

In Christ’s love,
Bobby and Charlene Wacaser
