2013-2014 Thanksgiving Offering

2013-14 THANKSGIVING OFFERING
Please be making your plans to give as generously as the LORD enables you to our upcoming Thanksgiving Offering.  We encourage EVERY friend of our missionaries to be a GIVING FRIEND!

Pastors, will you be willing to announce and promote the Thanksgiving Offering in your church – and encourage your people to give to it?  Our missionaries’ needs continue to be great and the Thanksgiving Offering is essential to providing those financial commitments we have made to them.

And, remember – you can give your Thanksgiving Offering either through your church’s offering, or by mailing your personal check to our Treasurer, or by giving online through our website www.baptistfaithmissions.org ‘Donate/Support’ tab and typing in Thanksgiving Offering in the memo field.

A PERSONAL APPEAL FROM YOUR DIRECTORS
We who serve you and our missionaries as Directors have embraced the responsibility of acquainting you with their needs and appealing to you on their behalf.  We represent them and their needs to you.

Baptist Faith Missions administers support contributions for twelve families of sound, committed, and faithful missionaries who are sacrificially serving the Lord in the nations where the Holy Spirit has called and sent them to minister.  They have gone to their respective fields of service upon the commitment from us, their financial supporters, that if they will answer the Lord’s call to go where He sends them, we will give the offerings needed to supply their needs.

But, the only financial commitments we Directors have resources to give them are: “We will do everything we can to make your needs known to our supporting churches and friends and then forward them to you ‘as the Lord provides.’  If the Lord provides the support funds we have committed, then we will send them to you; if the Lord does not provide what we have committed, then we will send you what we have.”

WHAT DO WE DO WITH MONTHLY GENERAL FUND OFFERINGS?
WE NEED $46,600.00 EVERY MONTH IN OUR MONTHLY GENERAL FUND OFFERINGS TO SUPPLY THE MONTHLY ‘ESSENTIAL MAINTENANCE TRANSACTIONS’ OUR MISSIONARIES NEED JUST TO MAINTAIN THEIR DAILY LIVES AND MINISTRIES.  This amount is for those 12 missionary families’ salaries, housing and ministry expenses allowances, hospitalization premiums, and the costs of publishing their newsletters and correspondences with you in The Mission Sheets.  These commitments are funded by our monthly contributions to the GENERAL FUND.  If we do not receive sufficient funds EACH MONTH, then we must reduce the commitments proportionately among them in the amount of the deficit of the monthly GENERAL FUND supplies.

So far in 2013, it has become necessary to reduce their monthly committed funds by an accrued total of $6800.00 divided proportionately among them.  It may be necessary to do so again before the year is completed.

WHAT DO WE DO WITH THE ANNUAL THANKSGIVING OFFERING?
THE THANKSGIVING OFFERING IS USED TO SUPPLY ALL THE OTHER SUPPORT SERVICES AND BENEFITS WE PROVIDE FOR THEM THROUGHOUT THE YEAR AS THOSE COMMITMENTS BECOME DUE.  Last year’s Thanksgiving Offering was $52,348.17.  We are here in October at the time of this appeal, and those funds are all but depleted.  We have been serving our 12 missionary families throughout the year with these funds.  And, some of those services and benefits which are supplied from the Thanksgiving Offering were either not granted or were only partially granted due to shortages in the Thanksgiving Offering funds.

WE NEED A VERY GENEROUS THANKSGIVING OFFERING TO EXCEED LAST YEAR’S AMOUNT TO FULLY SUPPLY THEIR NEEDS THROUGHOUT 2014.

WE ARE, FIRST OF ALL, ASKING OUR HEAVENLY FATHER
We want to tell you something else: we also know that before we appeal to you, WE MUST APPEAL TO OUR HEAVENLY FATHER.  He is the One who created, owns, and transfers all of the assets that are in the world…and which He has committed to our stewardship.  Our Lord Jesus Christ taught us and promised us two different times in Matthew, chapter 6, that our Heavenly Father knows what we need before we ask Him (verses 8 & 32).

So, WE ARE, FIRST OF ALL, CALLING ON GOD to see their needs and hear our appeals. We are calling on our Father to please arise and give us “bread” to set before our friends as our Lord taught us to pray in the parable He preached in Luke 11.1-13.  Then, we are asking Him to give every one of us His Grace and move our hearts to respond to Him.  Our missionaries are His servants, they are ministering His Gospel, and they are aiming at His Glory in everything they do.

Missionary Update: AJ & Barbara Hensley [October 2012]

The Hensleys have spent nearly 15 years serving in Brazil. They run a vocational school and orphanage in Caraguatatuba and have also established a church and mission points throughout the city.

Dear friends,

Forgive us for not writing to you last month. We have been in such a whirlwind of events that the time just got away from us. Nothing has slowed down yet but we seem to have gotten our priorities in order this month.

We were in the States for 2 weeks in August with Barb’s Mother to help her celebrate her 90th birthday. That was a blessing. While there I was also privileged to preach at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church where Pastor Thomas is the pastor. While there we were so rushed that all I had time to do was to gain more weight. That is so easy to put on and so hard to get rid of. (lol)

On returning we were blessed with a group from Centerville Baptist Church in Georgia. They were an AWESOME ministry group for our public schools. With them we were able to reach two schools to spread the gospel. We did Bible Schools and a work project in each school. Just saying that it does not seem like much ministry but the inroads made were AWESOME. The principals were astonished that we were willing to help with some needed repairs that they had been unable to get done. Then the friendships that were established with the children are truly amazing. One of the schools is located near the Vocational School and here we will be able to do more follow-up with the school and principal.

This group gave one AWESOME day for us working at the Vocational School. We were able to hang doors and do some interior painting in the dorm house. God is so AWESOME.

The ladies at Centerville were so gracious in making cloth bags for us to use in the food basket ministry that we did while the group was here. I must take my hat off to the ladies in the sewing group–they did an AWESOME job. We were able to mount 43 food bags and the majority of those were taken to the Indians at their reservation. What an unexpected blessing for these Indians that the Government has practically forgotten. This tribe I must say is very very poor. This word does not tell just how bad the situation is for these people. Their spiritual lives are just as bad as their physical lives. They have served so many gods for so long in their tradition that it is very hard to break through to them and make them understand that there is only one God. There are about 250 in this tribe and there is another tribe in the same area. Pray for these Indians, and for the people that work with them, that they would hear the word and accept the only living God as their Savior and Lord.

The remainder of these food baskets were given to some of the families in our church. We sometimes forget those who do not have 3 square meals a day because we do have. Everybody just simply does not have the basic necessities. So what an AWESOME blessing for the Church to be able to minister with these basic necessities. Thanks, Pastor Allen and Church!

While talking about the Church–ours is going great. We have around 90 members and the fellowship is growing along with the membership. We are having around 140 in attendance on Sunday night and this is a blessing to see.

This past weekend the ladies of the Church had a Ladies Retreat. It was a great blessing to many women. They received cloth bags that were sewn by the sewing group there at Centerville Church also. Everyone loved their gift. When the retreat ended, Barb and I headed out on a 3 hour trip for me to preach at the Church in Natividadi da Serra. We helped begin this mission 6 years ago and now it is a Church established for 1 year. It was my pleasure to preach at this one-year anniversary and to see the growth that has occurred in these years. They started out in a house then moved to a room then opened the front of the room and added a covered garage. They are now spilling out to the street. They started with 6-8 children and Pastor George and Alda. Sunday night there were 80 or more in attendance. Those children that were there at the beginning are now adult teenagers leading music and one has surrendered to the ministry. What God is doing there in that location is AWESOME!!!!! As you can tell they are needing some land to build a new building. Please make this a matter of prayer for the Church at Natividadi da Serra.

Well it is beginning our Spring and soon it will be Summer and HOT here so if you get tired of the cold there in the States just call and we will put some more water in the beans and turn down your bed. In other words you are always welcome here in Caraguatatuba, Sao Paulo. We will be honored to show you what God is doing with your mission dollars.

This photo does not show you the awful conditions but you can see some of the Indian children that desperately need Jesus as their Savior.

In His service,

Aj and Barbara

FaithWORKS Report [July 2012]

2012 THANKSGIVING OFFERING

Please be making your plans right now to give as generous and liberal Thanksgiving Offering as the Lord enables you. The needs are great and on-going…and God is faithful! Remember, when you support the General Fund of BFM, you are supplying the essential needs of 12 faithful missionary families to obey Jesus’ Great Commission to go into all the world, preach the Gospel, baptize those believers, establish New Testament Baptist churches, and teach those churches to believe and practice everything Jesus Christ has commanded us. You will not find anywhere on this planet more Scriptural, committed, and fruitful missionaries than those who serve in partnership with BFM.

Here are just some of God’s inspired instructions on giving:

1. Purpose in your heart what you believe God wants you to give [2 Corinthians 9.7]
2. Plan your giving and your gift well in advance of the occasion [2 Corinthians 8.10- 11; 9.2]
3. Trust God to give you something to give back to Him [2 Corinthians 9.8-11]
4. Lay something aside every week or month in prospect of the offering [2 Corinthians 9.3-4]
5. Give generously and hilariously…with thanksgivings to God [2 Corinthians 9.6-7]6. Give in obedience to God and His Gospel…and to express your love to Him [2 Corinthians 8.7-8; 9.13]
7. Give to God and His Glory [2 Corinthians 8.5, 9; 9.11-15]
8. Give for the telling of His Gospel in all the regions beyond you [2 Corinthians 10.16]
9. Give to Christ’s Gospel servants to be like God [3 John 5-7]
10. Give to participate and share in the fruits of the harvest [3 John 8; Philippians 4.17- 20]

JUNE’S GENERAL FUND OFFERINGS

We have received your extraordinarily generous June offerings with many thanksgivings to God! We thank each one of you. Every offering – of whatever amount – goes together to make the whole what it is. We can thank God for many of you by name because you are willing to be identified by name. We respect others of you who request anonymity, but you can be sure that God knows who you are, and we bless God for each one. We are not the only ones who love a cheerful giver – God Himself tells us that HE LOVES THE CHEERFUL GIVER! [2 Corinthians 9.7] I am never hesitant to express God’s own evaluations and sentiments.

Your faithful giving supplies the needs of Christ’s servants and ministers of the Gospel; multiplies exponentially glory, praises, and thanksgivings back to God; and encourages others to give also.

Missionary Update: AJ & Barbara Hensley in Brazil [July 2012]

The Hensleys have spent nearly 15 years serving in Brazil. They run a vocational school and orphanage in Caraguatatuba and have also established a church and mission points throughout the city.

Friends and family,

Well, let me tell you about my grandchildren….. You know it is a little bit heartbreaking when you only get to see your grandchildren once every year or two. But God gave us two down here in Brasil so we could see them with more frequency. Then He moved them 9 hours away too. But this past week Barbara went to spend some time with our daughter in Sales Olivera. The reason for this trip was that Mary’s oldest was having surgery. She had her tonsils and adenoids removed. Well, during that time Papaw had to stay home and house keep and keep our work going. Saying this for you men because you know that house keeping skills—what is that??? Well Miss Chelsea is doing well in recovery and Barb is back at home and rescuing the house.

We have had the Blessing of helping a new missionary to Brasil get established in their new home and their new surroundings. They sold out in the States and moved here with 18 bags and started setting up their new home. They have 3 young children ages 4 years, 2 years and 3 months. How BRAVE they are. Their home was in Georgia. So to get them “Broke in” to Brasil we met them at the air port with our van and our truck. Did I mention 18 bags? Well those were not ordinary bags they were “body bags” in other words “BIG” So the road back to our city is being made bigger and they are blasting so it is closed from 10 to 4. This means that we only have a small window of time to get them at the airport and get back past the closed road. Well needless to say we did not get everything done on time so we had to take a LONG short cut. On this long short cut our van broke down so our 3 hour trip turned into an all day journey. This was their welcome to Brasil greeting. We spent the biggest part of the day in a van on an unknown part of the country with a baby crying, hungry children, tired passengers, no water—and the list goes on.

Along with this couple and their family we have 2 young men from Georgia that is going to spend 6 weeks with us here helping with the work. What an honor it is to be a part of these young men’s lives. Ross is from First Baptist Church in Centerville, Georgia and is going to Seminary and Luke is from Second Baptist Church in Warner Robbins Georgia and has a love for missions.

As we minister here we always have our eyes open for the opportunities God has for us. We have discovered an Indian tribe within 2 hours drive from our home and are looking into the possibilities of doing some Bible Schools there. We have learned that there are many needs in this tribe so we are excited to see what we can do for them. Hopefully we can tell you more in the next newsletter.

Speaking of ministry our church has had many visitors this past 2 weeks. I think it is because of the vacation from school. So we are having a problem here at Church—we are running out of chairs. But I should not be complaining, What a great problem to have!!!How AWESOME is the God we serve.

So as I am looking around at our problem it registers; we are renting this building and we are at 80 to 90% capacity, no more space for Sunday School, no parking and no money– what are we to do—simple, PRAY more.

So with this list of problems we are asking you to pray with us for us and we know that our God is an AWESOME God and He will supply.

The work at the Vocational School is progressing slowly. We are working on laying tile on the floors, the walls and getting the electrical work finished and looking at the color selection for the walls. If you think you heard these same things last month it is because things go a bit slower here than in the States. We have learned to go with the flow.

Thanks to everyone for your prayers, financial support, and encouragement.

Well, you did not let us know if you wanted to come down so the rooms are full and the mints are gone off of the pillows, but there is always next month. So let us hear from you. Come on down!!!

In His service,

Aj and Barb
